My 10d only uses the top focus point to focus, although I have set the middle to focus. Is it jiggered or is there a logical solution.

Bit stressed so cannot think rationally.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Try taking the battery out then put it back. Sort of like reboot for a computer.

If battery doesn't help, the try re-flashing the firmware...

Both batteries removed and replaced and firmware re-installed. No difference.

I can use the camera, but it's not ideal. Any ideas what it might cost (minimum charge?).

It will take an age to get back and might not be an economic repair – any experience anyone in the uk.

I have seen a number of 20d's go recently for decent money, so it's a real bore to have to start looking for a replacement now.

Hope someone can help again.

My 10d only uses the top focus point to focus, although I have set the middle to focus.

How do you know this?

Maybe you half-press the button, and the top focus point flashes red to tell you that it has a focus lock there. Maybe you half-press the button, and the center focus point flashes red, but then when you look at it with the RAW converter, it tells you that it used the top focus point anyway. To put it another way, how do you know you have the middle point set?

I've seen lots of people who get their camera out of single-shot AF mode, and then all sorts of mysterious focus locks happen.

Thanks all – it's sorted.
It was, er, operator error!

I had centre focus set up on custom function 7 and this is how I used the camera. With my daughters birthday party in full swing, I used the camera in portrait mode. As I have a big ed on, I must have hit the 'select focus point' button which is duplicated on the battery grip.

As I always use the centre and never change it, I was horrified to see the top focus point illuminated and under stress, couldn't think how to change it. When I looked closer, I tried to press the inner most button to select another focus point (I thought) and it didn't work.

I can't tell you how relieved I am. Thanks to all that helped me again. I won't do that again.
