Newbie here. Hello.
I've recently loaded the EOS capture software to my iMac (running OSX pre-jaguar, ten point two point eight). When I connect my Rebel XT to the computer (set to "communicate" in the menu), nothing happens. And after "pointing" the Apple Image Capture software to "EOS Capture" when a camera is attached, nothing happens. Another interesting observation, when I physically open the "EOS Capture" software through the applications file, the applet loads and disappears on the tool bar. WTF? I've read several posts that say to try the image capture routes, but it's been unsuccessful so far. I will say that I have not loaded the suite of Canon applications - only EOS capture. Could that be the problem? thank you.
mike.

Installing all the Canon software on your Mac may help. You'll find that using a card reader, rather than connecting via USB, is a much more enjoyable experience.

The card reader will solve you problems.

Try looking at the upgrades to either Panther or Tiger, that won't hurt either.

You must install EOS driver for OSX.

thanks. Is that included on any of the application CD's? Sorry if this sounds dumb!

thank you! I actually accessed the CF card via iPhoto. However, the file dates are all as of the "loading" date, rather than the "photo" date. I think a card reader's in my future!

Something more.
Rebel XT has two modes. One mode you can use for capturing images direct to PC ( without CF )
The second mode you can use for downloading images from CF ( like from another HD )
Sorry ,I have 20D and don't know modes names in Rebel. ( Normal and PTP in 20D )

The instructions say to connect the camera, start up the EOS Viewer Utility and then click on "capture" in the main window (it's a camera symbol with a screen behind). This is on p.M-54 of the EOS Digital Software manual.

ETA I think you also need to select a folder (or create one) to send the photos to.
