For those that use the Bush Hawk for hand holding long glass:

I've engineered (ok...maybe that's too formal a term for the mod ;-) a way to use the Cotton Carrier adapter with the Bush Hawk gun stock mount to use with big glass hand held.

It involves using a Bogen Junior Elbow bracket ...flipped and if you use the Bush Hawk extension bracket you can put a Bogen QR plate mounted to the front handle base for mounting on a tripod then both hands can be used on the firing grip and the elbow bracket while the front handle mounted on the ball head of a tripod acts as a pivot base for really big glass. Sort of like a machine gun mount if you've ever wanted to go from hand held to leg mount with a Bush Hawk.

With the CC vest bearing the weight it works out very well. I use a BSA 3 color heads up reticle gunsight finder and if you get that dialed in to your view finder...you don't even have to put your eye to the viewfinder to nail composition of your target while shooting.

The mod is very clean and simple in appearance as well as being comfortable to carry. You can clip a neck strap for security but it won't carry any weight or get in the way of release from the CC vest all the way through mounting the gunstock and shooting.

You would only feel the weight of the rig on your neck if you were to drop the whole rig out of your hands.

Am going for a test run at the SD Zoo sometime tomorrow or over the weekend between social events.

Will try to post shots.

PM me if you want details.

i believe someone built a similar rig before although using a military shoulder mount that attaches to guns. definitely an expensive stabilizing mechanism, but it worked!

interested to see how yours turned out and if it is more affordable than the military alternative.
