I must admit, I'm not a cricket lover, but they are all terrific shots. The facial expression by the wicket keeper on the seventh one is superb.

Brilliant! Those expressions! I love cricket, except that the Aussies are so good at it! LOL!!!

Yup, excellent expressions!
It's hard to believe how shallow the DOF is at F7.1 at 600mm.
I took some cricket shots last fall, and it's a b*tch trying not to blow the highlights since they are all wearing white!

Great shots, was it a one day test or 3? I watched it in New Zealand and played a little while I was there. A good sport and great people.

Take care,

Lynn

Great shots, but, I, too, have absolutely no clue what the heck is going on in that game! And everyone dresses so nicely. :-) Anybody got a link to the Readers' Digest Condensed Version Rules of Cricket?

Damn, now I'm not sure if this isn't just another version of baseball, which I despise! Are you in after you're out or out after you're out? Is there only one round of in and out? And how does one get out, assuming they are in, so they can be in and out? Hmmm, perhaps I need a slightly more verbose explanation than I thought. :-) Oh, and how come they dress so nicely?

Here's some more info: http://www.cricketweb.net/resources/history.php

In the 18th century, cricketers would often wear top hats... I also believe it was legal to catch the ball in your top hat rather than in your hands!! Bizarre...

Yep... the DOF is still pretty tight... and, of course, I'm stopping down by 2/3 of a stop just to make sure I get the batsman, stumps and wicketkeeper in reasonable focus... and avoiding blowing the highlights on the whites is a nightmare - I agree!

Drat! I read that history but it still didn't explain the object of the game. I guess I need something more. Two teams. One team "in" has a batter. The bowler throws the red ball and the batter hits it. How do the wickets come into play. Does the batter run when he hits similar to baseball? Is it only the batter who can be put out? How many players on a team? And they dress so nicely.

I went back and read the Laws, but it's still a bit of a mystery to me. I'll have to go to a match, if there are any near Santa Barbara and chat up some knowledgeable spectators.

The object is to give the oposition a jolly good thrashing so we can all enjoy our gin and tonic with some crumpet in the tea house afterwards.

Cricket is as much a part of English culture as it as a sport, thus its objectivity is debatable.

So, the bowler throws the ball at the batsman. He hits it somewhere and runs? Like baseball? I can't figure out the object or how one scores. What are the wickets for? At least they dress nicely, eh?

Try this one Dwight: http://www.angielski.co.uk/cricket_rules.htm - I was about to type the rules up myself but this explains it fairly well.

For more detail, try this: http://www.icc-cricket.com/db/ABOUT_CRICKET/EXPLANATION/CRICKET_EXPLAINED_FOR_NOVICES.html

The first one was perfect! Thank you, Gmen. I am ready to play ... from outside the pitch with a camera in hand! What a game ... the batsman can simply decide he's done and the next guy's got two minutes to finish his gin and tonic (my drink) and shuffle up to the crease. I am absolutely, positively going to attend the next local match I hear of ... sounds an order of magnitude more interesting than baseball. :-)

I just went back and reviewed the images and the commentary and now it all makes perfect sense! A lifelong dream come true.
