Hello,
I'm wondering if someone with a similar set-up could help me find the right bag. I would prefer to be able to use both hands freely because I have two kids.
I would carry the gear in my signature line (minus the F3:lol: ) and also a few additional batteries. I usually keep the battery pack mounted on at all times.
Just getting back into the photography thing and your help much appreciated.

By both hands free what do you really mean? Could you narrow it down to a style? Shoulder, Belt, or backpack?
For instance I have a lowpro mini trekker that would hold all your stuff well. I tend to not use it when I've got my kids with me though. When I'm doing stuff with family I normally use a small shoulder bag (Crumpler budgie smuggler) with just a couple of lenses, or a belt pack.

Citizensmith,
I am thinking of a backpack so I can walk around holding my kid's hand without worrying about a strap sliding down my shoulder. I'm leading toward a lowpro mini trekker AW.
However, you have shined a new light (which is probably like "duh" to y'all):o about idea about carrying a smaller bag to kid-centered trips like the amusement park, museum, park etc.
How is the Crumpler budgie smuggler? How much can it carry. Looks like a non-photo bag, which is cool.
Eric,
The bag you have looks great. Maybe a bit too many pockets and zippers for me Thanks for sharing your idea.

The LowePro Micro Trekker 100 will easily hold everything in your sig minus the F3, and it's very light and compact compared to the Tamrac Expedition or the Mini Trekker. I have the Micro Trekker 100 and 200, but I mostly use the 200 because I have some larger lenses.

Another option is one of the Tamrac Velocity sling bags, which you can carry like a backpack, but swing around to the front for easier access to your gear than with a traditional backpack. I'm not sure which will fit your gear, but I'm guessing the Velocity 7 or 9.

I have this one personally: Lowepro Dry Zone™ 200. Here are 2 links to purchasing it:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43442&item=7522727842&rd=1
http://www.ebags.com/lowepro/dry_zone_trade_200/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=18446
I have purchased bags from both of these sites and have had great success. However, these guys on ebay have the best bag prices hands down. You will not be disappointed!!!
Here is the one you mantioned getting and I really like it:

The price difference is absolutely crazy isn't it? Once again, my vote is from these ebay guys. It will take a little longer to get it to you but you cannot beat these prices.

Thanks for the help guys. There's just so many out there and my local shops only carry a few so I can't actually compare and fit my gear which is too bad. Although I like to support local stores, I am not going to pay double ! Online or eBay is probably the way to go for me.
Does anyone else repack in a smaller bag according to who with and where you/your family are going?

The budgie smuggler is great bag. Big ol' rubber pad on the shoulder for one thing so I've never had a problem with it slipping off. It actually wears a little better as a sling style rather than just a shoulder bag. Mine carries my RebelD, a 17-40 (with the hood) and an 85 (with the hood). Basically a body and then two resonable size other items plus bits and pieces (cards, batteries, etc). Lenses of the 70-200 f/4 size are a bit big for it. It will just about fit, but not mounted on a body and there is no room for anything else.
Aside from that, the crumpler line in general is very well made, and does to a degree avoid looking completely like a photo bag.
Hope that helps

To follow up,
I decided to go with a Lowpro Mini Trekker AW. The best deal I could find was a few bills shy of a Ben Franklin including shipping, on the net.
I would have happlily paid a bit more locally if anyone at least carried them:rolleyes: . That way I could have actually fit my gear. Oh well, we'll see.
Thank you for all of your help. I will receive the bag on Thursday. Can't wait!

i dont know why most people dont mention the canon backpack
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009R6TA/103-6852588-8599807?v=glance
37 dollars..and its like the mini trekker and the others but your not spending 100+ dollars.
yes i would love the expedition 5 but im not shelling out 130 dollars for a backpack...yet ..since the canon will suit me just fine..you know ?

Too late but I find the big Lowepro top-loader ideal for family days out (wipes, hankies, sweets etc and sometimes even a camera)
