Well I've always wanted to shoot some smoke. Had some extra time tonight and finally got to it. What do you think?

Care to share how you did this?

I had a very "ghetto" studio setup for this one. I'm away from "home" so all i had was a 580EXII flash, pocketwizards, and a reflector. I needed a snoot for the flash so I made one from a cereal box. I setup incense on top of a stool, let them burn. The black backdrop is actually a black shirt I found and ducttaped to the wall. I set it up so that no light from the flash or reflector would spill on the backdrop. I got a proper exposure and just shot away. I experimented with different numbers of sticks, different colors in photoshop, and so on...

How did you angle your flash?

How did you angle your flash?
At the smoke? to the left of it, shooting directly across

The barndoor will work great. Also if you can add space between the smoke and the backdrop, you will save alot of time in cleaning up the photo. Also you can add a small desk lamp to light up the smoke so your camer can focus on it. Good luck...

NO NO NO.. when I did my first smoke pictures, my setup was a little to close to the backdrop. I picked up some dust and stuff from the backdrop and had to do a little post work on it. You pictures look VERY CLEAN.. I was just giving a helpful hint to another member.
Great work.
