Please tell me what you think. This was my first shoot with my tripod and setting up a "studio" in the living room. i had a bit too much natural light on his feet, but any other suggestions or coments on how i can improve? taken with a G6 and 420ex

1st photo needs more contrast. The tones are too similar. Second photo has great expression

They are both nice poses, and I like the overall setup. But as the last poster mentioned, the sepia one could use some punch. If you're using Photoshop, try using a curves adjustement layer on top of whatever you used to get the sepia. Maybe try a gradient map instead of whatever you used to get the sepia. There are several ways to go on that, so if you can, play around with a few and see which technique works best for this image. Maybe a simple levels adjustment layer will do the job. You can have it soft, but still have the contrast that will make it really stand out (if that makes any sense).
Good first try with the home studio. I like the sheet and natual light. With the sepia, I'm a sucker for a little selective coloring. Maybe throw in a toy next time and colorize it. Or use a little outfit with some texture that would colorize well (denim and corduroy work great, but maybe he's a bit young for that). Does he have a favorite toy? Maybe something he likes to chew on? That can work well with selective color, if you're into that sort of thing.
Good job.

Thanks for the replies! I appreciate the feedback. I have photoshop but i really only use the basics, i will play around with it to see if i can get the sepia pic a bit better. I like the idea of a toy, or colored toy. We spent about 10 minutes the other night right after work, so to be honest i didn't put much effort in this time..
Thanks again!
I've added an adjustment layer, curves, and and added another for the contrast, think the tones are still too similiar?
