This was my first attempt at taking pictures at night. Most of the time I used shutter speeds of at least 8 sec. I know they aren't the best, but my tamron came up a little short for some shots.

I like the first shot but feel that a crop might help, a little too much empty space in the sky. Also, check your aperture for shot one its f2.8 on the other shots it f32 and that's why you have "starbursts" from the street lights.

No 3 looks like the Boston Ave Methodist Church. Good effort.

I like the shots but the first three look like they are leaning to the right.

i think night shots of cityscapes can also look good if you take them when there is still light in the sky, so just after the sun has gone down

Thanks for the comments. I did play a lot with the aperture that evening. At first I thought I wanted as much light as possible in the camera, but then decided I would rather have a longer shutter speed. My tripod had a leveling ball so I tried to level each shot but after looking I was a little off.
I do feel some Crops will help the shots. SParker1 is correct about Boston Ave Church. It's a great building. Regarding ETAF's comment about light in the sky, I'll try that next. These shots were sometime after Midnight. I'll try about 30 minutes after sunset next time.
Thanks so much for the comments. I'm very new to Photography and working on framing shots and working with my limited zoom (~ 85mm).
Question: Is it better to be F2.8 or F11 - 22 with longer shutters?
Thanks again!

your photos are good but I suggest you to choose the time when the sky is dark blue not completely black. here are my comments to your photos:
1. Upper part is too empty
2. looks good but composition could be better
3. good but unwanted lines in the right
4. best of all but very bright areas in upper left
5. very good but empty.
Here's one of my night photos:

ETAF,

Would you mind helping me understand this. Sorry, but I'm very new and thought you wanted the F11 because it would keep everything in focus, is it better to be in the F4 range?
This is a question I'm struggling with since I like to have parts out of focus, but I'm also trying to provide a clear view. Any and all help is appreciated as I don't knwo what I'm doing.

sorry i was agreeing F8 - F22+ to keep DoF - if you like bits out of focus then you will need to experiment
