hello,
i recently bought a telephoto lens for my g9. the lens came with an adapter. all fit together, but the integral lens bumps into the back of the telephoto lens and switches off the camera. does anyone know if this piece of kit (in particular, the 'straight piece') would act as a 'spacer between the tele lens and the adapter?

I've run into this before...get a cheap filter of the right size take the glass out and you have your "spacer".if the M-F thread becomes an issue use a lens coupler for connecting two lens together (it is M-M) and will act as a spacer as well...commonly used to couple two lenses together for a macro rig).

I wonder if you bought the converter for your camera.
Just so happens that I was reading about the lens adapter and ran into this link. Give it a read

I am surprised the bayonet mount of a Pro1 ring is the same/fits for G9.
The main thing though is what is the length of the adapter tube you bought?
The specs on adapter tube LENGTH for G9 is: 1.99” (50.55mm)
This can be found on Lensmateonline and other sites.
Many other G-series and A-series take somewhat shorter standoff distance, e.g. 1.63". Some need longer.
Also, not all Telephoto converter-lens are built the same. Some 'backends' protrude beyond the mounting threads (i.e., put rear lens element or holder closer to camera body). And that causes contact with the zoomed lens. (Imeddy's link will lead you to one review where that is the case. There are other 'problem' lenses.)
