Well folks, yesterday was Auckland City Photo Day. Did the locals all get out & into it?
Yep! lotsa people out & about armed with a bewildering array of gear. Lighting for the day went from foggy to downright dull, so I haven't much to show for the daylight hours worth posting. This pic happened after a patient wait at Mt Victoria summit.

Anyone else get anything interesting? feel free to post 'em here...

Nice shot joeseph.
:)
I entered last year, but didn't bother this year. The weather sucked, and the judging seemed a bit biased towards children. 3 of the top 6 were from the same group of friends, aged about 9 years old, who just had urban people shots.
This was my shot entered last year:

It was in top 30 of 420 entries, and was displayed at many places, including library, art gallery, civic centre etc. A week before the competition I had an email from the organiser, asking for a raw image of this file, as they had to do some advertising work for it, apparently they were now choosing my image as one of the ones to be displayed. I gave it to them, but don't know what they did.
On Saturday I was at the airport... Boring.

Thanks guys, yeah the weather was really odd - very dull & boring.
Petergull: great to see you've been here!
Skyphix: the day they stop printing 'em is the day I change printers.. currently using frogprints
Wazza: We all know you're shots are frightening off other competition entrants! I know what you mean about them though, I keep getting hassled by family & friends to enter them but really can't be bothered - I take photo's mainly for my enjoyment & if others like them too thats a bonus.

Theres an auckland city photo day?
I can honestly say that after living my whole life here I have never heard of it :o
Im either to old, to young, or don't read the Herald.
Very nice shot joeseph Mt Vic is a great spot to get some awsome shots of the city from.
Looks like the wind played a little havoc with your tripod though. I have it blow mine over completely, makes getting a sharp image difficult.
And have you seen this: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=76991

Yes.
I need to choose a couple of Auckland prints this weekend for:

Maybe some other locals should try it. It has real prizes, and the winners, truely have great photos. I read last years winner won a couple of the individual ones with the Landscape shot (Bethells reflection), and Urban I think it was, and won the overall best image. Total prizes he won was over $3000. Those are probably the two areas I would enter, as I don't have any people shots to share.

[Theres an auckland city photo day?]
yes indeed. I spent an hour or so in the CBD and spotted quite a few people out & about - with 20/20 hindsight I could have done a series about "people-taking-photos"
funny thing photo competitions, the ones I've seen lately have for prizes: you guessed it, digital cameras!
