Hi, anyone tried using Lowepro Toploader Pro 70 AW for travel photography? I'll be going to Vietnam next month and would like to use the above bag plus a lens case for the following gears.

Canon EOS 40D (with grip)
EF 17-40 f/4L
EF 24-70 f/2.8L
EF 50 f/1.2L (might not bring)
Cleaning Kit
Lowepro Utilities Case

Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you.

I have the Toploader 75 AW and love it! I have played with the 65 and 70 and they are equally nice, just smaller. If you get another lens case or two to attach on the side you should have no problems carrying what youre looking to take.

Hey there,

I'm a Singaporean and I used to own the Toploader 75 AW, a slightly deeper bag. It's pretty much essential that you get the 75 if you really want to put your 70-200 inside for non-travel times.

It can also fit a 40D gripped + 24-70 hood reversed + 17-40 no hood (stacked below).

Two points at the side allow for additional pouches. I used to strap on a bottle pouch and a lens pouch for my 17-40.

Go to TK Foto or Cathay Photo to test (:

Cheers,
Zexun

I use the Toploader Pro 70 AW with my 40D (no grip) and either my 24-70 or 17-40 lens, and it fits fine. If I want to take both of these lenses, I'll attach one of the Lowepro lens cases. With a lens case mounted (and filled with a lens), the empty bag is somewhat off balance when you carry it since the lens case is mounted on the side. Once you put your camera/lens inside, though, it comes back into balance. If you include your lens case, I think you should be able to take all the gear you mentioned.

The 24-70 must be with its hood reversed?

I've had the Toploader Pro 70 AW for a couple of months, i use it for my gripped 10d with either my tokina 11-16 or EF 24-85, I have lowepro lens cases for both lenses, and usually carry the larger lens case on the side of the bag.

one thing to note is the newer version of the Toploader Pro bags only has a sliplock loop on one side and a small mesh pocket on the other side, but the older one has a sliplock loop on both sides (which i personally think is a better design, i have the newer model and i really wish there were two sliplock loops).

I plan on getting the S&F deluxe belt to carry the toploader and any additional accessories on my waist.

Hi Zexun, thanks for the comments. Got my Toploader Pro 70 from CP today.

Hi tgata, thanks for the comments. I'm thinking of putting my 17-40 in the lens case. Can advise me which lens case you are using for 17-40?

Hi Deejayry, thanks for the comments. Is the S&F deluxe belt useful?

Hi Deejayry, thanks for the comments. Is the S&F deluxe belt useful?

I've not actually got one yet, i am expecting to get it at Xmas, so i cant tell you how good the belt is. my reasoning for getting it is to be able to carry a few extras when i need to and also carry the toploader bag on my waist.

The belt also forms part of the street & field shoulder harness system or vest harness.

Sure, the Lowepro 4S lens case will fit each of your 24-70 (with hood reversed) and 17-40 (with mounted hood). That's what I use with my Toploader when I need to carry a lens case. So you can have one mounted on your body, and the other in the 4S case. With both lenses and hoods, the fit is snug, especially with the 17-40 because the hood is wide. But they do fit with hoods. Without the hoods, the lenses tend to flop around a bit but since the insides are all padded, I don't think it makes too much difference. I always use hoods, so the 4S case works great for me and those two lenses.

It does come with the chest strap/harness as shown here:

But as far as I can recall, my 75 doesnt have a belt loop in the back. They are pretty hefty cases too, Im not sure would want to carry it on my belt, might take my pants down with it!

The version of the 70 AW that i have does have a belt loop, i've used it a few times with a lowepro Street and field deluxe belt, but i find it quite awkward to carry the 70 AW on the belt and would imagine it to be even worse whilst cycling.
