Had an interesting weekend shooting at Auckland International Airport. Went both yesterday and today, for a total of about 11 hours spotting.

It's been very foggy the past few days, and when the fog burns off a bit, so you can actually see the aircraft, the air is still very moist, and the wings cause massive contrails etc.

And a couple of larger test shots, when the sun came out with this ancient lens I'm still trying out.

Awesome shots. Isn't it amazing what a bit of moisture and low pressure can achieve.
BTW I see that the emirates is an EMU...they are supposed to be flightless :-) !

Very cool stuff!

The fog is doing some very cool stuff lately, I very nearly got up early on Saturday and went into the city. The fog has been forming on the inner harbour, completely blocking the bridge from view even from the water front. It then rolls in and by about 8:30am most of the city is surrounded by it, right up to K-road.

Yeah thanks.

I was driving home, and some saw spectactular sights, going across the Onehunga motorway bridge. Looking towards One Tree Hill in the late evening, it was a very surreal eerie look. Mostly foggy looking, with some sunlight behind One Tree, and was just awesome. I would have taken a shot, but it's near impossible to change lens to 17-40 from the 400mm in the car when driving at 100km/h. :p

Great images. I think if I spent that much time hanging around taking pictures of airplanes at any American airport I'd find yourself being interrogated by Homeland Security.

Yeah thanks.

I saw that Airliners shot. Made me want to get something similar. Of course, I didn't expect anything close. Most just had trails, but that 777 was coming through clean air at the time, and suddenly started billowing out over the wings.. "CLICK CLICK CLICK".
But sadly, it wasn't that focused. Quite soft. So I just put a lot of USM on it. :p
