I'm having trouble with a new SanDisk 1GB compactflash card, and wondered if anybody here has any idea how I can fix the stupid thing.

My kit:-
Canon PowerShot A70
SanDisk 1GB CompactFlash card
iMac G5 running Tiger
Belkin 15-in-1 media reader/writer

What happened:-
I inserted the new card into my camera, and took 27 photos.

Connected the camera to my computer via USB, and successfully imported the pics into iPhoto.

A message then popped up on my computer saying "An error occurred when attempting to delete the original photos. 27 photos were not deleted". The battery on my camera was low at the time, but I've never had this problem with my old 16mb CompactFlash card.

When I try to format the card using the camera, it powers off and flashes up the message:- E50
When I insert it into my media reader and access it on my computer desktop, it shows up as being read only.

I can't delete the files, format the card, or take more pictures with it.
Any ideas?

Charge up the camera, put card back in and reformat it (in camera.) Get a card reader instead of connecting camera to computer. Then, you can cut (not copy) the pix into any folder you want. Usually faster as well. Card readers don't cost much either.

With the camera batteries full charged, attempt to format the card in the camera. If that fails make sure thye camera is working with another card, thus eliminating the camera as the problem. If the card is the problem, return it to the store or vendor I believe they have a lifetime warranty.
In the future use your card reader instead of the camera to transfer images to your computer, much faster and less hassle, then return the card to the camera and format it.
