I just ordered my "stuff" a couple days ago to mount my new 500D to an Orion 127 Mak-Cass.. So, I'll understand this too in a week. Been shooting afocally since 2005, making the switch to Prime Focus method.... If all goes well...

What mount? I have that telescope, originally mounted on a SkyView Pro with dual axis motors. Now I usually mount it on an Atlas.
Hopefully you noticed that the 127 Mak-Cass doesn't require a T-adapter *, because there are T-threads built into the visual back. The only additional hardware you need is a T-ring. You can use a T-adapter if you have one, but it's unnecessary.
That telescope is great for lunar shots with a Canon DSLR, and with a 2X barlow or tele-extender you can get some good lunar closeups at 3,080 mm focal length, even some decent planetary shots. It can be challenging for deep sky with my SVP mount, which can't be autoguided. On a heftier mount with guiding it works for deep sky too, but the f/12 focal ratio means longer exposures are needed.

* Unless you're going to use a barlow or eyepiece between the telescope and the camera

Hi Don,
So, I was speaking of the T-ring, and camera adapter (T-adapter) that's on the way. I got my scope off of a guy at work that buy/sells/trades these things all the time because he is never happy. Anyways, mine was ordered as a Apex, but then a EQ5 was added, and then I bought it. It is a GREAT scope!
Now you are saying that the threads on the back of my scope are "Japanese-standard T-2 threads (42mm x 0.75mm pitch)" that is used on all T-adapters, camera adapters, etc.?
I will have to check that out! That doesn't sound right, but I hope it is the case...
I'll let you know what I find. Can "afocal type" photos be taken with DSLR's like I always did with my point and shoot? Just Curious... :-)

My 127 Mak is the Skyview Pro model, but the only difference between it and the Apex model is the color, to the best of my knowledge. The visual back has external threads that you can attach a standard T-ring to, so no T-adapter is necessary. If you want to use a filter or barlow between the camera and the telescope you would need a T-adapter because there's no place to put them on the visual back. A T-adapter with a 1.25" barrel will slip into the visual back where a diagonal normally goes, and allow you to attach a filter (if the T-adapter is threaded for filters). To use a barlow you would insert it into the visual back, then slip the barrel of a 1.25" T-adapter into the barlow. BTW, Orion doesn't sell a 1.25" T-adapter, and the 2" won't work because the visual back on the 127mm Mak is 1.25" ID. Other vendors do sell 1.25" T-adapters. I've never used one on my 127mm Mak, though, I just attach a T-ring directly to the visual back.

/total joke
I have my Canon mounted on a telescope from the Keck Observatory. I get a lot of great shots from there:

This would be Titania, a shot I got from the 500D attached to the observatory.
Just kidding. Hehehe.

Meade ETX-70AT to a Canon 20D or Olympus 4/3
That telescope requires a special T-adapter, Meade product # 64ST, that attaches to the photo port on back of the telescope. You would attach your t-ring (Canon or Olympus depending on which camera) to the T-Adapter and the camera to the T-ring.

No, you don't need that last item, the 1.25" T-adapter. That's designed to insert the camera with T-Ring into a 1.25" eyepiece holder. With the ETX-70AT you don't use the eyepiece holder when attaching your camera, you attach the camera to the camera port on back of the telescope, and that only requires the #64ST adapter and a t-ring.
Have a look at the ETX-70AT manual:
http://www.meade.com/manuals/TelescopeManuals/ETXtelescopes/ETX-60-70AT%20manual.pdf
Connecting an SLR-type camera is described on pages 23 and 24. Note that the item they call a "T-mount" in the manual is the standard T-ring for your brand of camera.

^^^ wow, thanks for that link!
I was having trouble finding my manual - telescope's been in the closet... ;)
I took a pic just with the camera pointed at the sky and posted it as I was so excited about capturing stars normally not seen with the naked eye around here...
