Little did I know a couple of months back that I would learn to love shooting speedway! More opportunites have arisen to market my pics, so I took to the road today to cover another meeting. Here's a small selection:
Off to a flying start...

Tight into the first corner...

Don't normally shoot backs... but why not eh?

600mm too long? Maybe not...

Racing side by side...

Showing some style...

Keeping the pressure on...

It's crowded out there on that little track...

You've put ideas into my head now!

Thanks Dave! I watched the Hawks a few times many years ago as well... I miss the old stadium... Waterden Road really was a crumbling gem!
These pics were shot at Rye House, which can't be too far from you in sunny old Hertfordshire. They have fairly regular meetings so a chance to reacquaint yourself with those brake-less, suspension-less bikes and snap a few pics at the same time. They do some rather good fish & chips as well!

I don't think it's that far...
Have been to Rye House kart track a few times...is it near there? If it is then I didn't see it or wasn't paying attention!
Just looked on the website, there's no "find us" section

Yep, the kart track is next door... go past Rye House station, over a hump back bridge and the speedway track is immediately on the right!

The images above were shot with the 300mm f/2.8 on a MKII body with and without extenders... although I did use the 1D for some shots coupled with the 70-200 f/2.8. It's a combo that works nicely for the inside of the bend shots... a couple of examples here...

Cheers Molydood! Yep, like most motorsport events, the organisers don't generally like people wandering pn and off the track without accreditation (and having to sign your life away).
However, some of these images (#1 to #4) are made from the stands around the track which also present some good shooting angles. Sometimes there is a lot of clutter in the centre of the track so the outside view can be the better choice.
