I'll be at the USGP next weekend. Hopefully, I will get some good shots...and what about that race today?! Montoya drove really well today, I kind of feel like he got robbed...I wonder if they would've disqualfied Schumi for the same thing... Hmmmm....

Dweezil, I'll be there too. And yes, Montoya got royally "screwed," as they bleeped out the first time when the commentator said it, but let it go the second and third time he said it.
Do you mind me asking where you'll be sitting and what you'll be shooting with?
I just got an EOS 20D and am planning on using my 75-300mm F/4-5.6 USM (best I could afford right now with the zoom I think I'll need to get decent shots.) Really hope I can get some good ones.

He went through a red light in the pits !!!!! - and schumi has had penalties for crossing the pit line before, and button lost out because of car weight on two races - thems the rules :) :)

I'll be in section "H", which are located at the first corner so I'm hoping to see some action. I'll be there from Friday through Sunday. I'll be using my new 350D with my 75-300 zoom. Where are you sitting?
The orange dot is where I'm sitting, and the area I shaded in green is a great place to get some shots on Friday/Saturday because the cars slow down quite a bit. When they come into the first left hander after the short straight, you can get some excellent shots as you will be able to see the brakes glowing red. We'll have to compare shots when we get back.

I had semi press access to the F1 grand prix in Montreal last weekend. Got some great photos, might post some.
Canada is much better for photo's then the US, stands are pretty far out compared to here, unless you are on the straight, where you get giant fencing. So make sure you go very long and if you have the luxury of a 1.6 camera, use it. I ended up not having enough reach and set aside the 1D for the 10D, still got many good shots.
BTW, I thought the penalty Montoya received was extreme but it was a very stupid mistake on his part and got what was coming to him. You go through any red light and you are in big big trouble.

If any of you guys coming to the US Grand Prix would like to get together for an adult beverage on Saturday night, pm me. I will be at the track on Saturday but not sure where I will be yet.

Will do, I do quite a bit of press access photography for different sports and I become friends with many full time press photographers. Luckily when I was at the grandstand on Saturday I saw one of my buddies and we started talking and when the security guy came to kick me out he gave the guy the old "he is with me". He knows I'm in line for a staff job soon, so might as well add some stuff to my portfolio and some more backing for my sportsshooter application. I only got a couple hand fulls because there were a bunch of guys so I didn't want to get in the way of people doing their jobs, but I have a good 500-600 pictures from the entire weekend including pit access stuff. Its going to take a while to process but hopefully sometime this week I will get all of them done.
BTW Jeff, adult beverages? lol

I will be using the same lens. EOS 20D with my 75-300mm f/4-5.6 USM. I'm sitting just to the left of the starting line, so I can get some good shots of the start. I will be up walking around trying to get pictures probably.
If anyone wants to meet at the race, send me a PM and we can trade phone numbers, meet up, try and find some photogenic spots.
