A fun day at the Vintage Sports Car Club's race meeting at Cadwell Park (yeah, that's where I got the username from) in Lincolnshire. Met up with KennyG and I know he's probably going to be posting some stunning images; so working on the theory that the best form of defence is attack, I'm launching a pre-emptive one ;)
These were all shot with my EOS 10D since the 1D Mark II is still out of commision
#1 - no, I haven't photoshoped the background. This was shot with the 500mm Sigma prime wide open at f/4.5 so it's blurred out the track behind in an interesting way isolating the subject.

#2 Ken doesn't do pans, so I'm safe here ;) (Canon 70-200mm f/4L)

#3 MG amongst the trees (Sigma 120-300mm)

#4 Towards the end of the day I was playing some more with Depth of Field to isolate my subject. This was shot with the Sigma 120-300mm at f/3.5.

Thanks for looking and comments welcome. :)

Beat you by a couple of seconds. Thanks for the coffee by the way. My treat next time. We have Aggy's pictures and Paul B's to come next (that was Paul with me by the way). The 446MHz Icom units work rather well don't they?
The top one was the winner. I'm still chasing down races 6 and 11. HST is very slow at getting results out.
Why no tilt shots?

 Yup, the Icom units are great! Ag's pictures might take a few days since he's been exiled to Wales for a bit... some project or other.
Tilt shots? I don't think the 10D has a tilt function  :p I suppose I could photoshop something if you're desperate ;)

For god's sake no, please. Only drunks see things on the tilt. At least Cadwell has real hills so most tilts are genuine. Shots gone off to MSV already so they have both days. Have a look at ff1600.co.uk by the way, Oulton report. You'd think people would fix WB and exposure.

You sure? it's no trouble, honest ;)

Wondered where you got your user name. I see you captured the same beautiful MG that Ken did. Really like number 4 too.The others are good too. I just am attracted to red cars.

Red is good ;)
Green can be excellent on the right car and of course it's traditional for British race cars

Bugattis really shouldn't be seen in other than blue
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ukmotorsportpics/vscccadwell/CRW_4861.jpg
however, no-one could accuse this Bentley of being green - it was going off like a volcano on every corner, popping, banging and venting all sorts of fumes from every orifice - so I guess red is appropriate

Glenn,
Fantastic shots. Personally I can't get enough of these vintage racers. The last three shots are excellent, I like the angle and that you can see where the cars have come from. That said, #1 is awesome - I would happily have a framed version of that shot hanging in my study.
Look forward to reviewing your website when you get the other shots online.
Cheers,
Simon.

Number 1 is my favourite. Very nice.
You'd hardly know you were working with the backup camera! ;)

Great shots, Glen :D

Now the car looks quite big, but 24 litre seems like a bit much...
Best regards,

Glenn.. Great stuff as always! The neutral background in #1 makes it a winner in my opinion.

Thanks guys :)
Hi again John, the Mark II threw a hissy fit at the Brands Hatch round of the BTCC. The main rear LCD screen stopped working, the buttons down the left hand side refused to play and the main power switch worked to power the camera on but not off. It's currently with Canon undergoing surgery. UPS tried to deliver something today, I was out, so fingers crossed that it's the return of the camera - I'm not expecting anything else. It would be nice to have it back for Gurston Down this weekend.

Old Smokey was great at Oulton and Cadwell. Not the biggest engine at Oulton though, it was beaten by a 27 litre Bentley. Now there's something to think about next time you need gas, you could be driving one of them and 85p a litre would need a second mortgage.
Pleased to hear the machine gun is on its way back. They usually state what the repair was, so please let us know. I got both weekend meetings on the MSV site by the way. They are keeping me busy.
My favourite is number 5. Oh, and did you notice the guy in a Riley who had an embroidered moustache on his Nomex balaclava? I spotted it when putting the images on my site.

Well the Mark II has returned in good working order. For the record, the job sheet says they replaced printed circuit board assemblies DC/DC, D3 and D4 and replaced the LCD assembly back cover. I've been slagging Canon off over their service lately, but the camera has come back bang on time so no complaints.
I didn't notice the guy with the moustache on his balaclava, but Ag did and pointed it out to me on the day whilst checking his histogram

Here is a crop from a shot with the 300 that shows it rather nicely. That's what I call doing it in style. Nice to see that some of the VSCC 'chappies' have a sense of humour.

Here was I thinking I spotted Ag chimping. Well, it just shows how wrong I was.

Lovely shot Ken :) and yeah it's good to see a sense of humour amongst the drivers!
Chimping? Nah... couldn't be that! I've got a nice shot of a couple of pros doing a little mutual historgram checking from the weekend. Must have been some really technical exposure issue 'cos they were both quite animated about it. :p ;)

Cadwell, those are wonderful. We never get Vintage stuff like that here in the US. In fact, it makes me crazy that the "vintage" vehicles here are what I first remember seeing raced when I was little!

Sorry to hear the mkII broke - I've not come across those faults before. Canon did well to turn that around quickly. Anyhow - looking forward to see what you capture at Gurston Down. (I've never been to that venue before).... All the best... cheers from john
