I just purchased a Canon Powershot A510. As a part of the package I received a 128 MB SD card made by Dane-Elec. I have been using the card for several weeks with no problem. I have been using a card reader to download my photos to my computer. Today each time I inserted the card into the camera the "lock switch" was engaged so I could not use the camera.
Does anyone else have this problem? If so, have you found a fix?
I am planning on purchasing a larger capacity card but I want to be sure I don't get one with the same problem. Any recommendations?

Can't you just switch it to "unlock"? I'm assuming that the switch is being accidently moved into the locked position, right? Or are you saying that the switch has no effect on the "lock" state of the SD card?

Hey PacAce...I move the switch to "unlock" but when I slide the card into the camera the switch is moved to the "locked" position. I think the action of pushing the card into place moves the switch. I am thinking about super gluing it unlocked.

just be careful where you glue.. i havent used SD but i remember where your talking about.
can you carefully slightly angle the card so its away from the side of the little switch?
those little switched should only get switched if you really try..and have something sharp..not just putting it into the camera..see if anything catches on it..im sure a more expensive card might be built better.

Yes - I have that problem with some brands. The protector-slides tend to be really loose. I've got my cards from Hong Kong and they are generic brands. The most recent purchase is labelled "pq1 Hi-Speed 45". I guess the brand is pq1, but it's pretty hard to be sure who really made it. The reason I mention it is because the slide is really stiff. It's ideal!

The SD cards that I have have the switches that are flush with the edge of the card so there's no way to accidently slide the switch while inserting it.

Have you tried placing a thin clear tape over the switch or maybe filing the plastic switch so that it's more flush with the side of the card?
