Hi everyone,
I want to make up SLA battery packs to run my 420EZ and 430EZ Speedlites (yeah, I know they're not the best for Strobist use, but they're all I've got!).
Anyone know where the dummy batteries need to be placed in the battery compartment? I just don't want to fry my flash as I don't have any back-up flashes at the moment (too poor, you see).
Thanks in advance
Andrew

did you figure this out. i just got 2x Flashes, I 430EZ and a 420EZ, I just checked ebay and with 1 minute left I got a 430EZ, so looking for something to do with these things. And a Battery Pack Mod seems like fun, along with the mono mod

Rather frustratingly, I never have managed to find the answer to my original query. At the moment, I have resorted to running the flashes on new technology NiMh rechargeables, and have to say that recycle times are much improved over standard alkalines (plus the obvious cost benefit of being able to recharge rather than replace)
If you find the answer, please let me know!
BTW, what's the mono mod?? :)

If you test with continuity, the BOTTOM two spaces and joined together in the behind the batteries. It seems you should use the top two, not the bottom two.
BTW the YN RF602 triggers will wake up the 420EZ. That is definitely bring the 420 back into my multiple flash arsenal.

Look at, or even buy the cables from Quantum for their batteries that have the battery replacement inserts. They have it figured out.
Remember, that approach to external batteries does not improve recycle time, just means a lot more flashes from the bigger external battery.
I'd be inclined to use the hotter new tech rechargeable and get the better recycle time.

dmward, funnily enough, that is what I ended up doing as I never got to the bottom of exactly how to make an SLA for these flashes. Recycle times from the new-gen rechargables are great!

gnach, that IS interesting info. Must check that out as I'm using the Cactus V2s and when the flash is out of reach on a light stand it's a real pain in the derriere if it keeps going to sleep! :-) thanks for that tip!
