I was wondering if someone who has shot weddings with both the 5dmkII and the 7d could give me a pros & cons and a small review with preference? Before I press the buy button on bnhphoto for a new body grip battery etc etc. I have mostly been using 40d's for my weddings.

I moved this thread to TALK as you don't have an image to SHARE.
I use the 5D2 and 40D for weddings and I love the combo. If I end up buying a used 5D, I will use two FF instead of the 40D. I will have the 24-70 and the 70-200 2.8 IS on the cameras and deal with the shooting holding both. It's a balancing act, but it's better than switching lenses.

I've used a Canon 7D (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/646908-REG/Canon_3814B004_EOS_7D_SLR_Digital.html/BI/2312/KBID/3114) and a 5D I at a wedding, but haven't used a 5D II (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/583953-REG/Canon_2764B003_EOS_5D_Mark_II.html/BI/2312/KBID/3114) at a wedding. I've used a 5D II for a few minutes just playing around though. I'm not sure how many people have used both at a wedding.
Overall the 5D II will give you better image quality, but is slower to use and slower to focus. The 7D has the new focus system. For me the key feature of the 7D is it takes the 17-55 F2.8 IS (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/425812-USA/Canon_1242B002_EF_S_17_55mm_f_2_8_IS.html/BI/2312/KBID/3114), my favorite lens. The new focus system works great.

Hey tim do you use 2 crops at weddings or 1 crop and 1 FF?
Just curious what your body line up is and what lenses you usually have
on what bodies?
Thanks,
Jake

I agree with you on the 17-55 Tim so I just ordered the 7d grip blah blah blah but I am thinking after the holidays I am gonna order the mkII anyway the low light performance is just too much to pass on now to figure out how to hold both cameras up to my eyes to use at the same time.

I use the 5D original and 40D and 99% of the time I am wishing I had two 5Ds instead. The benefits of the 40D are extra reach with telephoto and a little more DoF with macro shots. Since theses are both limited uses, I would get more use out of two cameras with the same crop factor.

I use all crops, have a look at my gear list. 7D is main, 40D as 2nd camera, 40D with assistant and 20D backup in car. The 7D has the 30 F1.4 or 17-55 for most of the day, but I also use the 70-200 F2.8 IS at the ceremony and reception, the 10-22 sometimes for group photos, and the 100 f2.8 macro for ring shots.

I am also considering selling my 40D for the 7D. I like the idea of the 7D activating the other flashes I have, but I won't use that capability much. I just like speed. :) So, if I don't get the 5D Classic, I'll get the 7D as my 2nd camera body.
