I'm going to be shooting some holiday shots of a 6 month old next week and was wondering if the intensity of light coming from my 430EX flash + stofen would be harmful to the baby. I'm going to be experimenting a little with bouncing the light and direct light, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to harm the child in any way.
Would the concern make more sense with a newborn?

>> harm the child
No.
>> different if it is a newborn
No.
Lots of babies get flashed as soon as they come out. Mine was flashed probably a few thousand times by the time he was six months old. (My wife is a labour/delivery RN... but I'm no doctor so this isn't medical advice :))

Like mentioned above, no harm.
It is probably a myth.

Thanks for confirming guys. Some mothers can be overly concerned considering their baby is still developing.

Well, don't put the flash right up in their face and fire it. Normal distances are no problem.
Well, maybe not entirely true. Our two were photographed constantly from birth. Today they are both somewhat addicted to photography. Not sure if the flash caused that or not.
