I plan on asking for a remote switch(shutter release) for Christmas. I have a 40d.

Would you recommend just getting the Canon? or are there any off brands that work just as well and are cheaper?(or better quality)

Thanks
~Brian

If I was to get another wired shutter release it would be the Canon TC-80N3. This is the one I use and I think it is really good for the price. I guess it could be a little cheaper, but for all the functions it has on it, its still a good value.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Just a remote, no other features? Check the POTN Store (link at top of this and every page). Wired, wireless, and extendable wired releases at nice prices. I have the TC-80N3, but I got several simple releases from the POTN Shop so I can keep one in every (commonly-used) bag.

Consider the Aputure radio remote trigger, made in China http://www.made-in-china.com/showroom/aputure/product-detailIqjJWwLHnaUs/China-Photographic-Equipment-PRO-Coworker-Wireless-Hot-Shoe-Trigger-as-Canon-TC-80N3-.html

I have just purchased one for my 40D, and find it to be nicely constructed and a better touch to the control switch than the one I previously bought (from Adidt) a number of years ago to use with my 20D. Very nicely priced.

I wouldn't get anything Canon branded in this case, they just ask too much for it.

The Canon stuff is pricey, but it works flawlessly. Over the years I have been happier with the OEM stuff than the less expensive aftermarket.

If you want a timer one I say get the canon. If you just want a plain old wired trigger, get the cheapest one you cant find as the Canon's is nothing special.

I have one of these: http://www.adorama.com/CARC1.html

At $25, if you think that's too expensive, you're probably in the wrong hobby/business. Mine works like a champ.

+1 on the TC-80N3.
