Liverpool saw many many people leaving in the past for new lives overseas. This sculpture represents those families.

Behind the family is the boy:

Nice shots.
I saw this sculpture when I visited Liverpool. I thought it looked familiar ... did you know there's another one exactly the same in Portsmouth?

Hi
This statue or monument is called Sea Trek, (or the Mormon statue as I was informed the other day, because it was apparently funded by the Mormons).
There is a plaque on the wall behind the monument with the following wording,
‘During the Famine years 1845-52 over one million Irish people left from this shore to escape hunger and poverty and seek a new life across the seas.
Remember the Great Famine.’
It is a small but fitting tribute to all those brave people/families who through hunger and necessity made a brave decision to start a new life in a new world.
Excellent shots, you had better light that the day I shot this monument.
Peter.

Thanks Peter - I was there on Friday and it was a nice day. I was also there on Sunday trying to take some shots of the Spitfire and Lancaster but the weather was not so good.

Thanks Sandy. I actually sat down on the base of the statute to tie my last and a guy came up and asked me to move because I was spoiling his shot! :o
