I was just browsing through diff. photographers site, and I found this one's site....if you click on "About" and click on "Watch...in action." you can see she uses some camera with some square-ish thing on the lens (I do not know the technical name for this at all, lol, so bear with me...)
http://www.peggysirota.com/

What is that? Just curious..

Thanks a bunch...

Wow...what a ridiculously annoying website. How do you get business with that crap?

Looks like some flavor of a Mamiya RZ.

And yes, that is some awful website she's got going on there. Someone needs to tell her developer not everyone uses as 30" LCD and doesn't like to have their browser window dynamically resized.

The square thing on the camera is a compendium lens shade, it's adjustable for different focal length lenses and can be used to hold masks for vignetting and special effects as well as filters.

That website has to be the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen.

haha, i dont think it's crap but man it's way too overdone. They took the rules of graphical design and went WAY TOO FAR!

lol! Well yes, I dont really like the site design at all....
But anyways, thanks breal101!
Btw, if that's all that its used for, can't you just do vignetting in PS/LR, or just have filters on a lens? Just curious.

Back in the film days we had to do things in camera, vignetting, multiple exposures and such. It also made it possible to use just one set of filters for all lenses.

i guess i'll be the outlier...i don't see what the big deal w/ the site is, in terms of others' gripes. her photography is very well executed, and it's easy to navigate.

breal101, thanks.
Do digital photographers still use something like this today? I could have sworn I've seen recent videos of photoshoots where a photog had something like that on the camera...?

narlus, I understand....
Well what kinda threw me off was the first page....pix just change all quickly I had to think of whether or not I had to wait for something to happen or if I had to click on it. I dont like going to sites where I have to figure **** out.

But damn, she's shot a lot of wonderful photos, so who am I to talk? :)

If they're using MF digital it would still make sense to have a compendium shade. I always felt it was a better shade than the dedicated ones for each lens. I'm not sure but they probably originated in the movie industry, you see them used on Panavision cameras all the time.

I agree with narlus, the site is just a little different, she does great work. I certainly wouldn't argue with her success.

For those of you criticizing her website... I agree with you but she's doing something right. Did you see who some of the people were she was shooting in the video? Rosanne Barr, Woody Harrelson, Jason Priestly, etc...

She is shooting portaits of people. I do that too.

I agree...... she is obviously attracting clients that most of us will never photograph. Now thank you for your worthless, un-solicited opinion on a successful photographers site... sheesh!

Looks like an RZ67 with a power winder.

And while that is an annoying website, it's far from the worst I've ever seen. VERY far. At least it's not filled with flashing GIFs.

Yep, all "two bit" actors (if you call them that)
Barr would have to be one of the most un-funniest people on the globe and Priestly, well, what's he done since 90210.

Like someone else said, I can take portrait photos too.

As for the site...well enough's been said about that already.

Soooo, how many covers for international publications do you have to your credit? She has quite a few, and if you look further on the site you would see she has done portraits of Jack Nicholson, Tiger Woods, and former President George H.W. Bush to name just a few. Her client list for ad campaigns is equally impressive. You take portraits, I'm so impressed. What, you did a cover for the Australian Dog Catchers Monthly or some equally eminent publication? Big freaking deal.

Peggy Sirota is/was a big name photographer in Los
Angeles for many years. She did a lot of location shoots
in Malibu. I would be driving to Malibu and see her
signs directing people to the shoot site. She seemed
to be a very busy photographer.

Lani, you are right, I would see her shooting with a RZ67 with a winder.

She needs to fire her web designer.
I'm really not a big fan of the post modern indie style revolution, if that is what it is called, and that seems to be her specialty.
After fighting back an epileptic fit I managed to cruise through parts of her website, and I really am not all that impressed.

edit here in response to breal101:
it is more then likely the case that she has connections to big time people, probably through a close friend or family member. She has a much larger budget then many of us, but I've seen far superior portrait shots of people very well unknown. She put an actor in a clown outfit, big deal, I'd much rather see a portrait of an actual rodeo clown.

Great big deal, she makes butt loads of cash shooting par portraitures of Celebrities and people wearing pants 4 sizes to small for themselves.
Not interesting what so ever. I don't care how much money she makes, her photos have no life by my eyes.
