Simple question,can a 3rd party flash unit be used on a EOS 40D

Its a Minolta,just happened to have inherited one.

Probably not... While it might work in full manual, you wouldn't have any E-TTL functions. The triggering voltages are probably OK as the 40D will handle 250V.

Some Minolta flashes have non-standard foots. If yours is one of them, the flash may not even fit into the hotshoe of your 40D.
