Am I right that the only major difference between the mini trekker classic and the AW version is a 'rain cover'. 30 Euro's seems a lot of money for a piece of plastic.
Or are there additional advantages of the AW-version?

Does the classic have the fold down pouch in front to strap a tripod to the outside? The AW has this and it is invaluable if you do any hiking. The rain hood also comes in handy for putting on the ground under the bag to keep the bag from getting damp or dirty. I love my AW but I guess that is something you have to decide if you will use or not.

Yeah, the money seems like a lot for a rain cover. I have the mini trekker classic and I figured I'd just bring a garbage bag. But the comment about the tripod should be noted. Mine has no convenient way to carry a tripod vertically. I can lash it horizontally to the bottom but it tends to get knocked around.

I guess it all depends on whether you're planning to get rained on or not!
Have a look here for full info on the Classic:

Andr here for the AW:

Aside from the rain cover, the whole fabric I think is showerproof, there's the tripod holder on the AW and the padding looks better too.
