I'm getting eos 350d tomorrow. I like to shoot macro, and since im shopping, i figured i should upgrade my kit alltogether. So instead of using closeup lenses like i have so far, id like to use extension tubes.
so ive been looking at extension tubes they have to offer in jessops, and this particular set (http://www.jessops.com/search/viewproduct.cfm?PRODUCT=JESAETCAF&BRAND=&CONTINUE=false&FEATS=&FIRSTPRICE=0&KEYWORD=&LEVEL=&MODELNUMBER=&NEWQUERY=True&NODE=327&ORD=ASC&ORDERBY=&QUANTITY=10&RECENT=0&REFINE=&SEARCH_FOR=&SEARCHNODE=0&SEARCHURL=dointellisearch.cfm&SECONDPRICE=999999&SHOWCASEID=&STARTROW=1&SUBS=&WORD_SEARCH=N&) says it doesnt work with eos300 and eos55.
how about 350d?
anyone know if there are any issues the camera has with extension tubes?

Hi, I have some Jessops extension tubes which I have used without problem with a Canon 300D and 20D :) The tubes I have look exactly like the ones you have linked to, but there is no number on them to be absolutely sure they are the exact same ones, however I would almost put money on them being the same :)

PS just found the receipt and it has the same number on it i.e. JESAETCAF :) :) :)

i think a most of the extension tubes are about the same. i would think that they would note the 350d as one of the non-compatible ones if it were so. you could always call them first to make sure. good luck. macro is fun.

Those tubes will not work with your 350D. Here (http://www.jessops.com/search/viewproduct.cfm?Product=TLEAETSCAF&CFID=7661574&CFTOKEN=5920976-32d6eef1-511c-411e-a973-3fd9b141e3f0) are the tubes you want.

Is the compatibility issue with the camera, itself, or is it with the lens? I'm thinking of the difference between an EF lens and an EF-S lens.

Would have though not with the body as EF lenses will fit an EFS body?

I'm thinking it is the other way around. An EF lens does not stick into the camera as far as an EF-S lens. If one extension tube had a restricted internal dimension, then any lens fitting into it, from the front, would have to fit. I would think that if you have only EF lenses, then there might not be a compatibility problem.

The tubes you were looking at say they are for AF. The other tubes (link) say they are for EOS and your camera is an EOS. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif

ah
i didnt know there was a difference at all!
but yellow belly says he uses them with 300d and 20d and those are EOS too?

All of the Canon EOS digitals (D30, D60, 10D, 20D, 300D/DR, 350D/DRXT, 1D, and 1DS) are autofocus cameras that use autofocus lenses, but not all autofocus lenses are EOS.
Of course, besides the EOS digitals, there is a large number of EOS film cameras as well.
If you have a 300D, 350D, or 20D camera body, you can use EF lenses or EF-S lenses. If you have one other body from this whole family, then you can use EF, but not EF-S. We know that EF-S sticks back into the body slightly farther, and it goes on the "front side" of an extension tube. With that in mind, I assume that the internal dimension of the wrong extension tube can get in the way of an EF-S lens, but it will not get in the way of an EF lens.
I don't own any EF-S lens, nor would I especially want one since it won't fit on my EOS film body. So, I have no way of checking this against my extension tube.

Before I sold my 18-55 kit lens I checked to see if it would fit my Kenko Extension tubes and no it would not because of the rear protrusion.

i bought the camera today :D (lovin it!) and i mounted my 35-70mm lens on it for the time being. its crap and its old. And its not EF-S. Im planning to buy the sigma 18-200mm, which I think isnt EF-S, and some nice sharp macro maybe. I'll keep in mind to check if its EF-S or not. And to ask all those questions when i go and buy the tubes. :)
thanks everyone!

Hi, I didnt realise there was so many posts for this...
As I regularily use these extension tubes I can categorically say that all my EF AND EFS lens work fully and properly with these tubes with no problems whatsoever - I cant be more clearer than that :)

Ladies and Gents - though clearly by now someone truely knows ive just asked Jessops in Watford to test a set of their tubes as highlighted by TINATOTH on a 350d with an EF lens type - they'll let me know later today how they get on - as I would like to buy some for my Canon 350d also

My experience is with Kenko tubes, not Jessops, but I'm guessing it's the same issue.
the new Kenko tubes are able to accept EF-S lenses, which won't mount into a standard EF mount (that is, you cant put an 18-55 EF-S onto a 1D). This is in addition to accepting the standard EF lenses. The old kenko tubes accept EF lenses only. Either tubes will fit on your camera.
the most important thing to think about is WHY ON EARTH would anybody want to mount a short focal length lens (which all the EF-S lenses are) onto extension tubes in the first place????? you'd have so little working distance as to make shots very difficult. I find that tubes work best in the 70-300mm focal length range.
good luck,
Jon

Both say they're for EOS. Just different places. And Canon AF is EOS for all practical purposes.

If you want to know how those Jessops tubes perform with the Kit lens then look no further than this: http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=115645 :)
