Btw guys are you using any protecting filter on this lens, im little worrierd about dust and stuff, because i will mainly use it for outdoor/ street photography etc? Or lens hood will be just enought? I greatly appreciate comments and any help. Thanks!

Which one is better, in a store where i boutht the lens, i saw Zeiss Protection filters for around 150 bucks, also an B+W one at the same price.

I wouldnt - lenses are tougher than you think and can stand up to a ton of abuse, especially when they are as well built as a Zeiss.

I've got the 21 and looking to buy a 50 MP soon...I'd never put a $150 piece of glass over my $1500 lens, just use common sense.

The glass itself is hard to mark up but the coatings can mark up easier than you think. Will it affect picture quality? Most likely not. Will you hate yourself for not spending the money on the filter. YES!!!

I rented this lens in July over a two-week period. I didn't come close to using it to the best of its abilities, but thought I would post a couple of examples of my time with this very fine lens.

This first one [Running Eagle Falls, Glacier NP], shot at F22 to slow the shutter speed, doesn't put the lens in it's best light, but I'm mostly pleased with the result:

At full resolution, this second shot [Chief Mountain, Glacier NP], while not particularly interesting from a compositional perspective, displays the micro-contrast the lens is so regarded for. The rocks and vegetation reveal fine subtle details that probably would have been either lost or less-pronounced on my 70-200mm f/4L IS USM:

I really wanted to use this lens more on a recent trip to Montana. I had specific areas in mind that I was anxious to use. I never made it to those areas. Tried taking more flower/plant shots but it was crazy windy most of the time...here's one :)

^Thanks. I'm a terrible judge of distance. 75 yards? There's a slight crop to straighten. I was a little heavy handed with the cpl, but I took the shot in the midday sun and was getting a lot of glare from the metals. This lens is amazing wide open, you'll love it if you can get used to the focal length.

Although its a tad oversharpened for my taste, what you're seeing probably has more to do with the small web sized files uploaded than his sharpening process.

is it the zeiss magic forcing ppl to zoom walk, or is it the steep price leaving us with no cash to buy another lens?! just a thought to share.

^Sometimes using this FL can be accidental and foot zooming is not applicable in some situations.
Just be careful not fall off a cliff when doing so. ;)

I think the extra pop from the Zeiss does lend itself to landscapes very well, but I also think lenses like the 135L and 50L are optimized for shooting wide open - their strong points don't show through as much at f11. Also might have to do with the general consensus being that those are strictly portrait lenses, regardless of their true ability at other types of photography.

I also own the 21, 35 f2, 50 MP and they are all stellar. They all have a character of it's own and have that unique look everyone loves. :) I would try out the Zeiss 50 MP next. :)

Yes Julian:-). I am exchanging it with a zeiss 35 1.4... I found it easy enough to mf with the zeiss. And I only used to use my 24 l on Night mood pictures where I dont need that Quick AF.. I look forward to receive the zeiss:-)
