Going to buy a 20D and a 50-1.4. Lurking here and other places, the Canon camera warrenty seems to be coverd only in the Country it is bought in. I live in Canada, so if I bought a camera from B & H I would not get a Canon warrenty from Canon US.. I would have to buy the body in Canada and Canon Canada would now honor the warrenty.
However, I can buy a Canon lens anywhere and the warrenty would be good.
Do I have this correct or have I missed something?
Geo. :)

Don't think it would be much of a deal to ship to the US if you got Canon USA. Ask someone at B&H if they could explain the difference. Maybe e-mail thema as sometimes they are very busy on the phone.

The proplem with shipping it back to US is our customs dept. They can be painfully uncaring about charging more taxes on your own equipment on coming back from the repair in the US. I could only buy in the US if Canon Canada will honor the warranty. this applys to the lens as well as the body, as far as I know!

Guess you're right. I've just verified with Canon Singapore yesterday when I send in my 20D for servicing. Warranty for bodies is covered only in the country where the purchase is from. As for lens, it's International coverage, i.e. your lenses bought in Canada are covered even in Singapore.

I Emailed Canon Canada and recieved this response
"This warranty is applicable for Canon digital SLR cameras and EF lenses purchased in Canada or the United States and used in Canada or the United States."
Hope this helps the next person with this question and thanks to the responders.

Yep, all I need is a bill from an authorized Canon dealer from Canada or US.
