I have two problems with my ViewSonic 19" monitor at home: (1) the midrange greys appear blue, and (2) I can't see the shadow details clearly ... areas that look all black on my monitor often show up with with lighter or patterned areas on prints. A good example can be found on my Tony Bennett collage here (http://www.dwightmccann.com/Images/ChumashCollages/TonyBennettCollage-1000.jpg) if you look under the second from left and middle images across the top. On my home monitor the dark purple under those images is as black as the background ... I didn't realize until after I had made prints how amateurishly obvious my "blending" was. I can barely see it on my work monitor (which is supposed to be the same but there are big differences!). I'm happy to get another 19" or larger monitor. I don't recall what my video card is but I can check that out if it will make a difference.

BTW, I expect to purchase an Epson 7800 when they come out this Fall and want to be able to color match to whatever monitor I get, should that make a difference. My OS is WinXP Pro.

If there is a thread that addresses these issues and is current please point me to it.

Dwight,

I upgraded my entire system in December and love it. My best decision was to get a Apple Cinema Display. I love the clarity of it . I got the 20 inch ACD, but would get the 23 inch now since the price has come down.

I can see the differences clearly from the purple clearly. I have also calibrated my system using Spyder2, but it was really not much change from out of the box.

I am using a Dell System with XP Pro also.

to make sure it works just make sure you have Digital inputs on your video card. You will most likley have an analog input that you can also connect your 2nd monitor too, but you will only be able to calibrate the main monitor.

Eric, that was a terrible thing to do to me!!! I just ordered the 23" Apple Cinema Display from B&H for $1508 with the accessory mounting gadget and free shipping. After reading your message I went researching on the net and everything I found pointed to this as the moderate price solution. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I expect it will arrive in time for me to process my Charlie Daniels' Band and Live Oak Music Festival images next week!

So, do I have to add this equipment to my sig?

haha Nice one Dwight,

Hopefully you get as much or more pleasureout of the the ACD as I do. It is a masterpience of technology.

Give us a report after you get it and use it for a few days.

Well, there were a few less than great reviews of the 23" that I didn't see until after I ordered it ... pink near the edges and dead pixels. We'll see! I'll let you know.
