Well I attended the V8SC Telstra 500 yesterday. From a photography stand point, this was a really hard race to shoot. Seriously it was Fence city. The track looked a little boring too. I think this event was more a carnival were a race occurred at the same time instead of the race being the main attraction. I would have preferred it at Eastern Creek. Anyway, I managed to get myself a few decent fenceless shots:

Agree, it was fence city, worse where there were some interesting corners, the buggers stuck advertising banners up on the fencing, totally blocking the view. I think the track was set up for Television only, not us poor guys.
Looks like I'll stay with Eastern Creek, not going back to Homebush.

Great shot of the Jack Daniels car.

Nice shots pity it looked like another boring ass street track. I've lost my interest in v8's and these tracks arn't helping me get back into them one little bit.

Some good shots especially Rick Kelly 2 wheeling.

While we all like to bitch about the advertising boarding blocking the view around these street tracks, we should remember that, yes they do it for TV purposes, but without broadcast rights pouring millions of dollars into these events our beloved V8Supercars wouldn't exist.

It is the way of the (commercial) world. I don't like it either but you just have to adapt and find the best spots you can for shooting. I think syntax error has done just that.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I really appreciate it. The advertising billboards are a right pain in the proverbial but as 300Daz pointed out it is a necessary evil for the survival of the industry.

Personally not over enthused about street circuits either but the atmosphere was great and the racing brutal and therefore catering to the larger audiences bloodlust.

Again, I really appreciate all the kind words about the shots.

Yes but to be honest, why cant they have some platform where you can do up and take photos ? or at the very least pay to go up ? The Grandstands are the ONLY way you can do this and I will be getting that sorted for next year.

I stil think they could provide more vantage points, the back half of the track near the BMX track has hills that you could sit on up there but that entire section was OFF LIMITS to the public.

Dumb move as that has hills all along there would make a great natural viewing area.

By the way how can I upload my pics to embed them into the posts so I can show you mine ?

Shot 4 is awesome. Can't say I was too impressed with the 'preparation' of the road for the race.. specifically the removal of all those trees along australia avenue... Still, the government knows best.....

Getting back on topic, nice set of photos. I like the different crop in shot 2
