In amongst my busy schedule today, (work basically, and then a social event later in the evening), I managed to fit in the first moon viewing with the 10" Meade telescope at my grandads place. It was the first invite to view, and I jumped at the opportunity, and rescheduled my evening plans. ;)
Well here are the results.
I beleive the settings for moon shooting was somewhere around 1/60th up to 1/125th.
You can see it's a bit big for full frame.

Overexposing to bring out the shadow detail.

100% crop of Jupiter. Pretty cool, considering any other lens would show it as just a spec.

Another 100% crop, overexposing to bring out the 4 moons.
Bed time, now I'll be counting moons, and not sheep.

Awesome shots...if you got any closer to the moon you could just about see Neil Armstrong's footprints ?.
The pic of Jupiter is awesome too. I had a go at it with my lowly 300mm last year and after some serious cropping it turned up as a bright spot with 3 smaller bright spots beside it (one of the moons must have been round the back). Theers a couple of sites online that will show you which of those moons are which if you put in the date and time etc.
Just a though..have you tried photoshopping the banded jupiter into the overexposed one ?.
Can't wait to see what you come up with when you train that thing on Saturn !

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. :)
2500mm is the focal length of the telescope, plus the 1.6x crop factor. Maybe a full frame 1Ds could just fit the moon in at 2500mm? Anyone know?
I was in such a rush last night. I had to get to bed, as had a 5am start, getting my family to airport for their lucky holidy in Brisbane/Surfers. Just got back from spending a few hours at airport, and taking some other LUCKY shots. ;) I will share some later. Look out in Nature section again. (shot some sort of young Hawk/Falcon in a suburban street!) :p

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. And, how did you mount the cam to the telescope? Some pics would be appreciated. Thanks again.
