I recently purchased a Canon S30 and I love the fact that I can alter so many settings, but the problem is that I don't know quite enough about all the photography terms. Can someone recommend a good photography book that tells me aboout aperture, iso, etc. in simple terms and how to adjust them for different situations? I'm not looking to become a pro, just want some info so I can feel comfortable adjusting settings. Or any web pages that might help me. Many of the books I have seen don't talk much about the terms or how to adjust them. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

This site has very good explanations of most things, although not specific to any camera http://www.photocourse.com/

Hope it helps

One decent book I have, though it is geared primarily towards film, is "National Geographic Photography Field Guide" by Peter K. Burian and Robert Caputo. It covers the basics quite well with plenty of color illustrations. Much of what it covers - depth of field, focal length, aperture -vs- exposure time and film speed, along with plenty of tips - is applicable to both digital and film-type cameras. There's also quite a bit of information on picture composition including some nice tips from ten of National Geographic's top photographers.

No, I don't work there - I just found the book to be very helpful.

Thank you guys so much for the help. I know my camera can do alot of stuff I don't even know about, but with the suggestions I hope to learn. And thanks Tom for the recommendation on the book, I will certainly look into that, sounds like a good one
