Is it a quiz? If not then show us a fuller shot. I don't think it is a regular Goat.

Sorry guys, it's not a goat as far as I can tell. It's not a quiz either. I really don't know.
I took the shot at the local zoo and the animal, whatever it is, was more like a boar than anything else...

Ummm...a boar has tusks. This animal has horns. Is possible this was a gravid female?

Y'know, in zoos they normally '*do* have those fancy nameplates telling you what animals you can see ... much more convenient than being out, in the wild
We really can't help you there, if that's the only image you have...
Best regards,
Andy

Looks like a pygmy goat to me, too.

Growing up, we had pygmies as pets. The facial structure suggests that this is a female. I know when our females were approaching full term, the distension in midrif was remarkable. That may be what led to the boar ID.

Maybe it is a hybrid between a boar and a goat. Locally known as a BOAT. :)

I doubt it PacAce, since that says "Pigmy Goat" and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a goat. I think I know a goat when I see one. The best way for me to find out is to go back to the zoo and try reading the sign. ;-)

You're right! It definitely wasn't a boar. I think it may have been a Wildebeest.

I immediately thought some sort of goat, but if it's not a goat, then it's a REALLY young bighorn sheep... which I would bet money that it's not. It's definitely not a pigmy goat though. They tend to have less fur around the face/neck area (less shaggy).
It's either a mountain goat, or a young bighorn sheep. I still say goat though.
Great pic.

Craig, I'll bet you a billion mickey mouse dollars (or yen, if you prefer) that that animal is the Japanese serow, a Japanese mountain goat. Sorry I can't tell you what the Japanese name for that goat is, though. :)
And now that I've seen a full body image of the Japanese serow, I can see why you thought it might be some kind of boar. With its hair growth under the jaws, it really does look like a wild boar.

Wow! That's it! Thank you! You win the billion mickey mouse dollars! It was really starting to bother me not knowing. In Japanese it's 日本カモシカ (Nihon kamo Shika) Judging by the name (Japanese Duck Deer(?)) it's a deer or a duck, but to me it doesn't look like a deer, a duck or a goat.

Hard to find much info on the serow, but it seems to be an interesting animal, in trying to find it I searched for Hydro's Jack-a-lope and found these:

that's another animal with a severe idenity crisis, if it exists at all.

It's definitely not a pigmy goat though. They tend to have less fur around the face/neck area (less shaggy). That isn't true at all. bucks can have a truly impressive mane:

Which is why I said "tend". ;) It looked like a mountain goat to me. What kind though, I wasn't sure of, but definitely not pigmy.
Well done, PacAce. *thumbs up*

I was gonna say a pipe cleaner, but it does (for those who don't have scratch-n-sniff screens) smell like a goat.

Anybody hear of a kenny-lope? It's a rare kanga-deer that runs around in Montreal and which everybody mistakes for a deer. If anyone can get a picture of this rare animal, that would be truly awesome. It's so rare, in fact, that only one person has seen it in the last two or so years. :)
