have had no real issues with flare, then again, I dont put myself in position to get flare with this lens or any other. This lens is not cheap, but the IS is fantastic. Size is perfect and I love the contrast and color this lens gives me.

Lens flare generally has to be provoked. Normal shooting situations will not put you in a position where it could be a problem. I tested the lens to see just when flare might be a problem - it is in a narrow set of circumstances when the bright sun is just outside the edge of your frame but still within the opening of the hood. Put the sun into the frame and the flare is well-controlled. Put it farther away from the frame and it is not an issue at all. Pretty rare circumstances given that shooting into the sun in such a manner isn't usually the best course of action.
Here's a little testing I did with the DO lens:

Dante,
I've noticed you've got a Kenko 1.4X. Does it work with the DO and 28-135mm IS?

Most processing was in RawShooter. I then did a little level adjustments and cropping in ps.
Thanks Dante, I was generally pleased with the results.

Hi all... first post (though I've been lurking awhile).
I bit the bullet and got this lens shortly after moving into the digital world with the Rebel XT. I've had very good results so far. Not too many problems with flare (haven't been using the hood) and fairly sharp once you find the sweet spot (around f16). Plus it's reasonably lightweight (not to mention stealthy), so it's easy to carry around. I'd post some pictures, but first I have to figure out how. ; )

Oh as far as posting images, you can direct link by using the tag:http:www.yourdomane.com/file_name.jpg or hit the go advance option in the lower part of the browser window and use the attach image option. Please note that images need to be under 100k in size for the attach option and really should not exceed 680 pix in width for proper viewing. So lets see some of your work!!!

Yes, welcome to the DO club. I don't think that Canon will have a replacement/improvement for this lens anytime soon. The pictures above tell the story. It is a camera bag 'must have' for the amature candid photographer.
Thanks again to those who posted pictures with this lens. That's how I made my decision to buy one. It is the one of the most used lens in my lineup. (Oh yeah, the Laughing Jackass almost woke my kids up.)

sweet spot at f/16? tat means taking pics with bokeh are not a good choice for this lens?

Don't know about that - bokeh is generally pretty good (shot at f/7.1):
