I sometimes convert pictures to B&W, but I never go shooting with a "monochrome vision", as you put it. You've inspired me to try it some time.

One thing people probably rarely think about when doing B&W conversions is Color Temperature.

In LR especially, when you knock something down to Greyscale, go up and grab the Color Temp slider and see what effect it has. It can be dramatic.
