Ok, my D30 did the shutter malfunction/no sync malfunction. Luckily I had the extended warranty. Anyway the camera came back and the repair ticket stated the shutter unit was replaced. Although I have not got to use it in the studio yet, everything seems to be working.

My question is when I sent the camera in my sequential file number was something like 400-9468. I get the camera back and the camera started numbering them at 894-9403. I rather expected it to start back over at the beginning or was even holding out for a small miracle that it might continue where it left off. But I can't figure out why it would start where it is. Anyone able to shed some light on this?

On the bright side, I sent my unit in for warranty work on Tuesday, February 4th. I sent it overnight. Canon repaired it and sent it back overnight (that surprised me) on the 13th. So I got the camera on the 14th, just 10 days after having sent it in. I was pleased with that. FYI, I sent it to the repair facility in NJ.

That seems to be good news as I am just getting home from FedEx having sent my 1 month old D60 back for service, it seems there is garbage or stains on my cmos sensor. I thought it was condensation and was cleaning my lenses like crazy but on close inspection found that the garbage/stains was only showing on images shot at f/11-f/22. and then I tried another lens and found the stuff was showing in exactly the same locations on all images. Tried following cmos cleaning instructions to no avail . Ohwell, off to Canon . I hope they are quick Too.
Thanks for giving me a chance to gripe.
Oh yeah,
Maybe they exercized your new shutter that much.
eh, what do I know
