Okay, forgive me for this but I have a new bracket question. I bought a CB digital-T from my friend and he says that I am supposed to have the bracket mounted on the "camera right" side.
If I do this my hand doesn't fit easily or comfortably to address the shutter release button or even hold the camera with my right hand in a natural position.
What do you guys do? My hands are not big and cumbersome, they are normal size and I still have comfort issues.
Thanks,
Andy

Buy good quality flash brackets. That is why they cost so much more.

Bobby, CB (custom bracket) flash brackets are one of the good brands in the market.
OP, I think you have that model they have that until now I still can't figure out why they would have the bracket mounted on the right side. I saw that model in one of the trade shows in Vegas.

Bobby, very intelligent answer! I am sure that helped the OP lots.
Andy, you need to move the bracket away from the grip. If you have it close to the grip it will be a handful to put your hand around. Check out the image on CB's site.

Jerome, Dale,
Thank y'all for the help. I did try what you suggested Dale and I mounted it like the picture but I'm still not there yet on the natural, comfortable feel. I guess it will take getting used to.
Anyone mount on the left side with this type of bracket? Drawbacks for left side mounting?
Thanks,
Andy

I have the Digital Pro M mounted on the left side (which is how it's supposed to be). It's easier coz you can hold the bracket with your left hand then shutter on the right.

Holy Toledo!
I just looked that up Jerome and wow,! that's the real deal. I paid 20 bucks for my used bracket and am still trying to figure this dang thing out.
Does it matter which way I tilt the camera for portraits? Right hand up or down?
Thanks,
Andy

Andy, for portrait orientation, it'd be so much easier if you tilt right hand up. I use a grip and the CB's rotating mount so it's much easier and the flash stays on top no matter how I tilt it.

I suppose what side the bracket goes depends on how you tilt the camera for portrait orientation (clockwise or ant-clockwise). I personally turn the camera anti-clockwise (as I suspect most do) but, if you're a 'clockwise turner', the the left side of the camera would seem to be the obvious place for the bracket (and vice versa).

I can use my CB Junior either way, regardless of how CB websites shows the mounting..
Ridiculous of them dispalying the camera mounted with holding arms to the right..

Which side you mount is often driven by the bracket design. The flash is supposed to be above the body when you turn from Landscape to Portrait mode. So you might not be able to maintain that relationship with some brackets when mounted to the left; you might not be able to maintain that relationship with other brackets when mounted to the right.
It also is somewhat dependent upon which direction you like to turn the body (clockwise vs. counterclockwise) when in Portrait orientation. CCW camera rotation for Portrait orientation is the assumed rotation...the Canon battery grip's extra buttons are designed with that in mind -- and some brackets are not designed for that!

Thank you! I'm starting to figure that out. I guess I'll learn to adjust with my "beginner" bracket. Hey, it was only 20 bucks from a friend. Now I know why he upgraded! Hahahahaha.

That's the one I have as well. I don't know why, but there are so many that mount the other way. It's an expensive bracket but it's built very well and works very well.

Here are some good, low priced middle of the road StroboFrame brackets.

Custom Brackets makes a diverse set of brackets!
The Pro series has handles that seem to be L/R based on photog preference, and the camera rotates CCW to Portrait
The CB Digital-T and Folding-T and CB Jr. all have handles on the Right, the camera rotates CCW to Portrait
The CB Digital-S and Folding S has handle on the Left, the camera rotates CW to Portrait
Based on that it seems the Pro series is the only one which makes sense. The others either put the handle on the wrong side, or turn the camera CW to portrait (not good if you like the Canon battery grip buttons!)

I have two CB brackets. The CB junior and the Pro-E. The Pro-E is on the left and the Junior is on the right. I might be different from everyone else but, when I use the bracket I grip the camera as I normally would and then support the lens as if I didn't have the bracket. I have never held the bracket by the handle during shooting as I adjust my zoom with that hand. I only use the handle to transport the camera assembly while moving to a new location.

I think the bracket handles are use to carry the camera, rather than shooting with it.
