I guess forgetting to set the ISO back from 1600 on the 300D doesn't seem such a bad mistake to make after all :-).

Did he buzz the white house by chance?

That's one of those mistakes you only make once in your life.

OMG!!! I can only imagine the sinking feeling at the pit of His/Her stomach when the pilot first realised, "Something has just gone HORRIBLY wrong"! I feel bad for that pilot. :( :(

Wow. There's amazingly little damage to the plane considering what it's been through. Interesting shots.

I was parked at my college that has an airport behind it. I saw a cessna take off and it's engine cut off as it was climbing. It did a super tight turn back to the runway that was next to me and landed without it's landing gear because he had no time to lower them. His prop was destroyed but his plane suffered no damages except the belly's paintjob.

Too bad I didn't have my camera. =(

It's rather fortunate that the plane isn't a total wreck! Looks like that prop blade is going to find its way into a giant blender. :)

Nice capture.

Now that would be a blender I could use at the diner!! LOL Glad no one was hurt.

My flight instructor used to allways tell me, "One crash will just ruin your whole day!"

a good reason to fly fixed U/C birds!

It's not just a prop issue, the engine will neeed to be totally rebuilt, after a prop strike, as well as the airframe will need complete inspection, pilot's seat will probably need replacing, or at least serious cleaning/deodorizing. :)

Yeah - that's probably at least a $50,000 landing, since the engine will have to be torn down, and the airframe will need inspection...

I happened to be at the local municipal airport earlier this spring just taxiing out to the runway for a $100 breakfast (we do it every Saturday am), and someone was flying in for a checkride, and landed gear up. Didn't have camera handy, but the pilot I was with said he did it once, and he can relate... it's a really sickening feeling. Happened to be the same type plane, too!

the prop looks odd. all 3 of the blades are almost identically bent back..cool pic but suck for the pilot..

ouch.......guess next time he won't make that mistake. No fatalities, and minor damage...chalk it up to an expensive tutorial on landing procedure...lol

I have heard it said that "Any landing that you can walk away from is a good landing".

I got a flight lesson last fall. It's a great experience. Now, just getting the $$ to pay for it! Heh.

Lucky for me, I was in a new Cessna 172 - fixed landing gear. That sort of thing can't happen. :)

Why do Cessnas have brown seats???

"there are 2 types of pilots, those who have made a gear up landing, and those who will make a gear up landing"

Not all Cessnas have brown seats. The one I flew was grey leather.

Yup, sykocus, that appears to be a popular quote :)
