Calibrating an LCD monitor connected via DVI

Just received my Samsung 213T LCD monitor and connected it via the DVI output. I also have a Spyder 2 for calibration. I know the LCD monitor has menu adjustments for R, G and B but running the calibration software it asks you to adjust these values. I accessed the LCD menu but the R,G and B adjustments are grayed out not allowing adjustment. Is this a DVI thing as I think you can adjust them when using the analog interface? If so, what is the best way to run the calibration software allowing maximum adjustment of parameters? Appreciate advice from anyone who has calibrated a 213T or similar series LCD monitor.

I have a monaco optix xr calibrater from x-rite.

X-rites website has some support docs that basically say:
crt's can adjust the hardware to each colour gun and balance the white point.
lcd's just use software to approximate the effect, so just use the nearest white point. Using the software to alter the relative balance of the colours would duplicate the job of the calibration software and cause all sorts of problems.

I get the drift of what they are saying, but can't offer any specific help (I'm on a mac).
