So, my daughter has taken an interest in photography, but I didn't want to hand her one of my decent cameras, as she's only 19 months old. So I gave her my old A75, which was on its way out anyway (focus motor was struggling). I figured I'd wait till she broke it, then take it apart. Well, it took 3 days for her to drop the camera on the lens and jam the lens barrel, so tonight I took it apart. I basically took it as far as I could go without snipping soldered wires. (so, as far as screws and clips would let me go. Surprisingly, that's really far. It's VERY complicated to get it apart and disassembled. Took me the better part of two hours, as I didn't want to break any components (though there's no way I could put this back together).

The only wires I had to snip were those connecting the flash section to the rest of the camera, as they were soldered on both ends. I did due diligence, though, and documented the process. I through together a quick web page for the disassembly:

Thanks for sharing. I can just imagine how much more cramped inside the smaller cameras are now.

Of course, the much safer way to discharge a capacitor is with a large resistor connected between the terminals. I was being lazy and stupid. It worked, but still wasn't the best way to do that.

Wasn't it the Sony part that caused the problems with some of the Canons? Maybe my memory is faulty, but I thought it was a Sony part that was taken out of my A70 when it was repaired under the service notice.

Yep - the Sony CCD sensor.
