My 20D arrived today, seems digital cameras are only charged an extra 10% of their value when being imported to UK from outside EU!

It cost me: 20D Body Kit with 3 years extended warranty - £658
shipping - £75
insurance - £10
import duty - £60
TOTAL: £803

( came with free SoundCase 40 DVD case - very nice quality with slots for covers, and a very slimline adaptor for UK sockets)

Anyone got a better deal?

I visited there once for work. Stayed in a strange pub where all the old boys used to cut the speaker wires from the jukebox.

Paid £780 all in for mine. Only 1 year warranty though.

May as well make my first post a useless one :) .

I lived in Basingstoke for 24 years. I'm in Texas now.

interesting - i knew they was no import duty on cameras but thought you had to pay VAT @ 17.5%.

bet it was from eBay from a guy from canada....i recognize the shipping rate. you have to pay vat but i guess they lowered the price of the item on paper when they declared it so you only paid a small amount for tax....i got mine for 837 inc lens....should be coming tomorrow! i already have my 512 card arrived today from ebuyer just waiting for the camera itself!!

Yup - muscleflex is right! It was from a Canadian eBay seller. Find the rest of their great Canon deals here! (http://stores.ebay.com/Prodigital2000_Canon_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQftidZ2QQtZk m)

I find it quite shocking so many people know about Basingstoke. Admittedly, its rather nice town/shopping centre is rather nice and new and has even been advertised on National TV (in England), but apart from some interesting architecture, and the remotely interesing South Downs surrounding it - it's not that special at all!

I've just found out I'm going to France this summer! Brilliant! Going to that place mid-south of the country bang in the middle, where there's old volcanoes.

Seen some photos before and looks interesting. Can't wait to put this camera to use - but scared of damaging lenses before my filters arrive!

well, just picked up my camera! i'm happy! came straight from the US...shipping as listed on the package is $44. i paid the seller £24 for shipping (it's a UK seller). this was shipped to me from the States on a 24hr shipping!
just chargin the battery now..the lens, as most of you have mentioned - is so cheap and light! it's all made in plastic!!!! makes my tokina lens feel expensive compared to this one! no wonder you people are ditching this lens straight away! i think i'll do the same straight away..or when i've been able to recharge my bank account!! heh.

The Mack warranties all work like this: firstly, you register your warranty with Mack. Then, if you have a problem, you contact Mack, who then get a repair reference for whichever company made the equipment.

So, in our case, they get us a Canon repair reference. So we then send off our equipment to Canon UK where it is repaired. Now at this point, either we pay Canon first for the repair, and then Mack pays us back, or, Mack pays Canon directly.

That is a fantastic bargain, I would always worry about parting with that much cash on ebay though, it would scare me!

I also am amazed of the number of people who know about the 'Stoke! It is quite a strange town, but other than all the pikeys that live here, it is a pretty good place to be. Do you mean you are off to the Massif Central? It is great there, it's the wooded volcanoes that the old Volvic (or Vittel?) adverts were filmed on, you should get some nice shots.

I have never heard of Basingstoke. I did live in a town called Thetford when I was about 3 years old. Anybody over there ever heard of Thetford???

I am going to the Massif Central! Can't wait...

Parting with money through eBay is as safe as anywhere, if you're using PayPal. If nothing turns up, or you're scammed - you can claim it back - and the claim process is really quite effective.

I've used it before just to check it works when I bought a FireWire cable that never arrived (or wasn't shipped either it seemed). Was only a few pounds, but wanted to be sure the system worked before splashing out on more expensive things... (yes, I got my money back)
