I am looking to expand the memory of my HF-10. The internal of course is 16 gig and I would like to at least match if not exceed that capacity.

I understand that a class 4 or better is a must. Does anyone have any input as to what brand has severed them well? I am generally a bigger is better kinda guy, so I was looking at the class 6. But will class 4 suffice for good HD quality? I mostly shoot home videos of my new daughter and will be using it on vacation etc...no indie moves or anything crazy like that!

Thanks for your time!

I use a Sony card, it is 8 GB and Class 4. I can recommend it since the quality is great. :)

Not all cards are made equally. Some Sandisk cards stated class 4 while they were capable of class 6 easily, simply because class 6 wasn't around at the time the cards came out. Best thing is to go to http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/reader_report_multi_page.asp?cid=6007-9438 and see if the card you are looking for averages over 10mb/s (means minimum is very likely over 4mb/s)

The HF-10 records at a maximum 17mbps(2.125 MB/sec). Therefore you will only need a class 4 card at minimum. Brand does not matter as class determination of SD cards is minimum write speed in MB/sec. Other brands may be faster in their class, but is a moot point considering your camera can't use the extra write speed.

The only thing a higher class or brand is going to give you is possibly faster read speed, like transferring your video to your computer. This preference is up to you, but the bottom line is any class 4 or higher SD card will let you record at full quality.

Point is that some unrated cards and some below class 4 will still be just as fast as needed, since some manufacturers don't want to reclassify their cards and pay extra (so they just make a "new" line that is just a rebadged old card, and sell it for more)
