I know that you all will think I am increadibly stupid when I ask this question, but here goes anyway. I am going to purchase the 20D battery grip as soon as it becomes available again. I know...I have read about all of the problems...lets just hope I get one that works. I have never seen one of these in person, so I am curious about something. I understand that the battery grip "plugs" into the current battery compartment of the camera. One question though...what happens to the battery door? Do you have to take it off? I know, really stupid, just wondering what to expect though.

Yes, you take it off.

You will find it comes with full instructions anyway.
Have fun.

The door has a small switch/latch that releases the door from the body. The grip should have a compartment to store the door. Some people just leave the door in the bag or at home and use the compartment to store CF card.

The GRIP has a compartment to store the door.
Use it so you don't lose the battery door!

Yes, it tucks very neatly with the grip.

So everytime you need a a CF (BTW I did not tried it, but will a CF fit in there ? It seems to me that only SD cards can be fitted in the compartment) you have to remove the grip ?

You have to put it in sideways (narrow side down).

Yeah it would be inconvenient to do so (have to remove the grip), but interesting tip. I guess it would be good for a hiking trip and you don't want to put the spare in your pocket or backpack.

Other option would be a smaller, cheap 256/512 to keep always there for emergencies. Sort of what I do with flints in my Zippo lighter, just keep one spare inside it.

That's an Idea... I have a couple of 256s that I never use, one can surely go in the 20D... gotta check if the other fits in the XT...
