I had it sold it and I'm going to buy a Sigma 70-300mm APO. The 80-200 was ok but I guess not until I get the Sigma I'll find out which lens is better. I have seen the 80-200 for $75-$110 on ebay. Not a bad lens I got some good shots from it.

The 80-200 II is indeed a good little lens,i too have got some very good pictures with it and seen others getting similar good results

Will it beat the sigma 70-300 Apo? No-not if the sigma is a good one
That sigma model is highly variable in it's quality control-MAKE SURE YOU BUY SOMEWHERE THAT ALLOWS YOU TO EXCHANGE THE LENS IF YOU GET A DUD

I've had pretty good results from my 80-200, it's the first version and not the II. I'd never complain with it though, owes me all of $40 AUD and that's with a canon lens hood, Hoya HMC UV and a hoya CP:p

How does the mark II compare to the mark I? I have a Mark I left over from when I had a film Rebel a while back. I'm using it now with my new Canon XS and like it so far, but was wondering how folks thought it compared to the Mark II. I see lots of average to good reviews for the mark II, but no reviews for the Mark I. Both of these are discontinued, right? Any ideas when or why? I assume something replaced them.
I'm in the same boat with my 50mm. I have the mark I there too, which as I understand it is more desirable to the mark II, though they both are great bargains as I understand it for fast, inexpensive primes.
Thanks,
John

The earlier model is supposed to have much better build quality and the optical quality is about the same on both models. If you have the earlier model I'd keep use it unless it has any issues of wear and tear.
