I think it's a good shot. I like the lighting on the face. Having one shoulder a bit shadowy seems good to me. It gives the image a bit of mood somehow. The shadow on her chest might be a little too much, though. It's a little distracting. But I have nothing but a built in flash, so I'm not one to give advice about lighting. :o I would be very happy to get results that good.

Great shot! and great looking little model you have there :-) What lense did you use? the 50?

I would say excellent work. The only question I have is about a hair light? I think it would give a bit more separation from the background. The shadow on the chest doesn't bother me at all.

Very cute child too with a great expression.

Love it... she's a fricken' cutie.

That said... your lighting looks good as is. There are many many different kinds of lighting techniques you could use to achieve a certain look. Some use 3 point lighting... or 4 point lighting. Some use ratios to achieve more dimension, others use soft flat lighting, some butterfly or glamour lighting. Some use kickers, or rim lights, and then you can have a hair light... you can use gobos or scrims, and well.. you get the idea. Pick up a book on studio lighting techniques... I can't remember the site or the guys who did the really good book but I'm sure someone here can remember it.

Thanks everyone, I shoot this more than a year ago with my SM hot light. I'm very surprised this thread came back a year later :-)
