More ligthning from yesterday night's thunderstorms in southern Ontario. Guess I was the only guy crazy enough to be outside trying to get good pictures of the storm instead of seeking shelter inside :D

Taking pictures of ligthning is not as complicated as it sounds. Set the shutter for a 10 second exposure, making sure the aperture is stopped down (if it needs to be) as to not overexpose the scene. Then I just take one picture after another hoping ligthning will show on the picture. Out of 100 pictures taken only 10 or so have ligthning in them, and in many of those the ligthnng is to far and appears small in the picture. I took the pictures from my balcony, which gives me an unobstructed view of the landscape. Just make sure you aren't taking pictures standing under a tree!

Thanks, I'll try that next time a thunderstorm comes through Toronto.:)

I love night photography. Adding lightning really increases the interest. Nice shot. It may seem obvious to some, but you should use a tripod for this sort of thing.... Depending on the ambient light I've held the shutter open for nearly a minute waiting for the strikes.
