I would like #2 more if the foreground wasn't there. I think just the pier would be nice.
#3 has a major lean to it.

Very dynamic images - great angles and diagonal lines in most of them. You have a very interesting eye for a scene. I really like the first one, it's almost like being pulled in two directions at once. The fourth one might (or might not) benefit from a perspective correction to make the vertical lines perpendicular to the ground. The composition in the final shot is probably the weakest - it would almost certainly have been stronger if the entire shovel arm had been in the frame - I think that one would have benefited from vertical framing (portrait orientation) on the backhoe and with less of the right side of the current image included.

I like them all but some should be straightened.

I should of mentioned this was all shot with a Canon EF-S 10-22mm UWA lense so the slight distortion is part of the look I was going for in this series.

#6- the "construction site" is my favorite.
I agree with the previous poster who said- you have an interesting eye for a scene.

I think you only got the distortion 'well done' in the 3rd and last. Lots of interesting stuff, but nothing that jumps out as exceptional here. I think these are all good examples where moving around a few feet here and there, taking multiple shots and comparing them would be a good idea, maybe you did do that. I think you have the germ of a good idea here but it needs more work. As a series, it is not successful to me in part because of the range of subject matter and in part because the technique (the 10-22mm lens distortion) is not overtly clear throughout and would not be evident without being pointed out. The range of subjects would work better together if the technique was stronger.

Visual obstruction as in #2 never really goes over well because it stimulates survival instinct. The same with placing the subject in focus but out of immediate reach. We tend to want (and I say this very loosely) a subject that is easily reached, holds interest, and leaves one feeling satisfied when finished. Everything else is a function of varying degrees of what I call cognitive dissonance, or disruption to the normal senses, etc. This effect can be used by an artist and many use both consonance and dissonance in the same image to invoke many different responses. Sometimes the intrigue we get from an image that we cannot put into words is a result of exploiting this dynamic in the human psyche.
In general I think you have a good instinct and are now refining how to present an idea. In terms of subject #4 is my favorite but of course I spent some time in industrial environments and there is great beauty in the way industrial processes are designed and constructed.

I've got to echo stsva's sentiments, the first shot does some really weird things with your brain. My eyes want to follow the angle of the waterway to the left, but my brain is telling me to keep to the right. Very interesting.

:-) Thanks guys! I'm still trying to get my HDR's to look more realistic. I believe the last one (due to me unsaturating it a bit) give it a more realistic look due to the colors not poping to much.
Anyway, thanks. I'm going to continue to work on my HDR's and post em' up. Feel free to C&C!

oh yeah, and one more thing. this was done on my luch break during work so I had about 30 minutes to, literally run around and take shots on the fly. Deff not the amount of time I truly wanted to compose the pictures correctly.
I've owned my SLR for about 1 week now, so I'm still a noobie too.... looking forward to dedicating a full day to do a walk around so I have PLENTY of time to snap 100-200 pictures and select the best say 10-15 of em'.
Anway, thanks for the input. I'm trying, lol :)
