I have done an HDR of a landscape before but never of a subject like my car.

Let me know what you think. I know it is a little harsh but i was just having fun tweaking with the tonal curves.
Thanks!

Yeah i didnt think it would be a sensation on here, but who knows sometimes.
Any recommendations? I know for one i would have liked the tire turned the other way, but I would appreciate your input!

harsh love coming here, if you have sensitive feelings then stop reading here.
literally nothing about this photo is good. Your HDR is way overdone, it's supposed to even out the levels, not completely screw them up.
Great background. . .
Angle of the car, superb. . .
composition, impeccable. . .
I realize that this was just a practice shot, but for the love of god, please don't share your half assed snapshots here. Try a bit harder, and then share something that you are actually proud of.

few tips...less fake on the HDR (or ditch HDR altogether...very few can do it well), move it out of your driveway and turn the wheel so we're not looking at the tread, but the face of the rim.

Thanks for the comments. I dont post very often and am going to try to more often, but will be aware of the effort put into my posts.
I kind of like the fakeness, but i guess that is kind of a matter of taste. I plan to get some city scapes up of portland soon and will take into account your input.
Your sarcasim is a little vague Kris. I can take critisism no feelings hurt. :)

Wow, little tact when providing CONSTRUCTIVE criticism...
Anyways.. Yeah the HDR is over the top. The tires should be turned the other way so we can see the rims instead of the tire.
I realize you probably just took a quick pick, but part of HDR is choosing a nice background. Some backgrounds just don't mix well with this type of processing.
The problem is we get no sense of the color of the car or anything in the picture really.
Keep posting and learning. I'm in the same boat as you my friend!

You need to play with the local adaptation a little more! ;)
This has less dynamic range than a normal photo! :P

Thanks everyone for the advice. Its raining here today, lucky me, so my next attempt will be delayed.
I look forward to working with all of you on transportation!

For the most part, people think HDR (High Dynamic Range) is something completely different than what it really is. Most of the HDR pictures you probably see are not the correct way of doing them.
For example, if you take a landscape picture and the foreground is underexposed but the background is well lit, this is when you use it. Take three shots, at the minimum, then combine them to bring out all areas of the picture.
I'm not an expert on HDR but I know the logistics.

This is a shoot of mine. The first six are all HDR images, primarily because black is impossible to shoot correctly.

tone mapped photos dont really look good unless you really need to use them. at least a proper HDR... in the way it was developed. use it when shooting into the light. plus they dont usually work well with the paint on cars. it makes everything look filthy and dusty.
but whatever your into. it sure is a fad that wont let go...
