View Full Version : Problem transferring RAW image format photos from my 20D

I've searched the forums and haven't been able to get the answer....

Can RAW images be transferred from my 20D to a Windows XP desktop using the supplied USB transfer cable?

I've transferred 100's of JPG's using the cable but for some reason RAW images don't seem to work. I can view the RAW pics on my camera, when I hook up the USB cable a EOS20D folder appears. Normally I just click the folder and I see my images inside. With RAW format the folder is empty?

I'm a newbie so I apologize if this is a stupid question. Just trying to experiment with RAW images.

Yes. I shoot raw with my 20D and transfer to my computer via the USB cable all the time (especially when there is a few pics on the card), but you need to do it through EOSViewerUtility (drag and drop), at least that's the way I do it. I don't understand why you don't see anything. Would like to hear from others.

Thanks Leorooster,

I install the Viewer and was able to navigate to my camera from within the viewer. I copied the images to my desktop drag-and-drop :)

Thanks for the assistance!

You might like to buy a card reader, I find it faster and easier - the cards show up as a drive in windows.

I use a SanDisk card reader. It works fine. Its cheap. Its easy. I believe any CF card reader will read any CF card brand. I don't think they are brand specific. Some card readers may not accomodate some kinds of cards, but it doesn't have to do with brands.

It doesn't have that written on it. Its called image mate CF. I've had it for quite a while. It works with both USB 1 and 2. It cost under $20. I don't know what improvements I could want for it. I'm sure you can find more elaborate ones, but I'm quite happy with this one.

I use only sandisk cf cards, and over the years I've bought 3 card-readers (1 usb1, 2 usb2) plus the X's drive pro. All work. and a non-name pcmcia-adapter for CF-cards
the card readers are either plugged in a WintelXP or Wintel98, no problems

I use a Sandisk usb 2.0 reader. Transfers a full 512 mb card in about 1 min or less. I've used this since I got my first digital camera. Much easier and faster than hooking up the camera.

I bought the Lexar Fire Wire Card Reader. It seems a little faster than USB 2.0. Also the USB ports on my Powerbook are full with a printer and scanner and the USB hub I had caused some problems occasionally.
